On 27 May 2022, the Australian Department of Agriculture, Water and Environment updated the import conditions for risk plant products including frozen fruits, nuts and other risk plant products: The update requires that other risk plant products imported through certain modes of arrival must now be accompanied by a phytosanitary certificate and the following additional declaration: Representative samples were examined and there was no evidence of any maculata species (whether living, dead or molting) in Australia's list of maculata species of biosecurity concern. The new import conditions apply only to other risk plant products exported from all countries on or after April 28, 2022. Other risks Plant products that are not inspected prior to export are more likely to be infested by barbacoa pests, including Capra beetles, or if biosafety officials have reasonable grounds to suspect that the level of biosecurity risk associated with a miscertified commodity is unacceptable, they may direct the commodity to be returned or destroyed. The regulation came into effect on May 27.
